Nehna Hon

empowering individuals within immigrant and low-income communities

Nehna Hon is a collective based in Lebanon dedicated to fostering a communal network rooted in principles of respect, safety, and hope. Through our commitment to activist endeavors centered on fostering respect within our community, we strive to establish genuine safe spaces where individuals can assert their agency and access the basic human rights they deserve. At Nehna Hon, we prioritize empowering individuals within immigrant and low-income communities, recognizing the potential for catalyzing systemic change through the cultivation of mutual respect and agency. We firmly believe in empowering each other through the celebration of our diverse strengths.

Vision and Mission

Our vision

to create a collective sustained through community with the fundamental values of respect and promoting equality across all dimensions of race, ethnicity, class, and gender. We hope to foster future community leaders to bring about systemic change desperately needed in Lebanon and beyond creating a community of solidarity in the process.

Our mission

to embody the transformative change we aspire to see in the world. Through all of our projects we seek to empower individuals instead of aiding them and empower the community through creating a network of support and safety for us alll. Our advocacy, outreach, and relationships are driven by the unwavering hope inherent in our collective dream. We recognize that sustaining meaningful activism necessitates embracing hope, inspiration, and the pursuit of dreams as integral components of affecting real change.

Our approach

Nehna Hon prioritizes nurturing the next generation through educational initiatives while harnessing the transformative power of arts and music to amplify voices and inspire change. Like activism, education and art allow for the practice of creating imagination into reality and therefore are integral to Nehna Hon’s mission. Through community building efforts, we create spaces for collaboration, dialogue, and collective action and collective dreaming as we foster a sense of belonging and solidarity within our diverse communities. Our projects are not aid-based but are community based by providing opportunities for people to help themselves. We strive to address the immediate needs of marginalized individuals while fostering long-term resilience and empowerment both in youth projects and helping community leaders grow. We believe fighting for one’s rights is an everyday practice that can only be achieved through building community focusing on excellence and not survival even in the . Our mission is to build and teach practices of our own agency, the beauty of community and humanity through best practices and praxis, reflection and action together.

Ongoing activities

Educational Programs

Our programs focus on early childhood education, helping children develop essential skills and a love for learning. Our teachers are given and encouraged to continue their education by training at partner organizations as well as pursuing their own educational needs.

Childcare Services

We provide free childcare for single mothers and families in need. However our daycare services go above and beyond with up to date best practices and techniques. Our Childcare workers are trained and given special courses to better their childcare practices. We provide these children with educational and experiential opportunities beyond what is standard at other daycares. We practice the best quality of childcare in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment.

Support Groups

We offer support groups for single mothers, providing a space to share experiences, access resources, and build a community of support. We ensure support groups maintain the standards of excellence we seek as well.

Workshops and Training

We conduct workshops and training sessions on various topics, including parenting skills, health and wellness, and financial literacy, to help mothers build their capacity and resilience.

Art Integration

We provide our space to artists for projects such as music and dance classes, podcasts, storytelling, and other artistic endeavors, promoting awareness and creativity within our community.

Advocacy

We advocate for the rights and well-being of migrant families, raising awareness about the challenges they face and promoting policy changes to improve their lives.
